I’m Asal Ehsanipour, a freelance audio reporter, producer, and story consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most recently I was a producer for the ABC News audio team, where I made podcasts in conjunction with Good Morning America. Prior to that I was a senior producer at the Los Angeles Times, and a reporter/producer for KQED Public Radio, KALW Public Radio, and The Double Shift podcast. My work has also been featured on PRI’s The World, KPCC’s Take Two, and more.

My stories have taken me on a private tour of Guittard’s chocolate factory, behind the scenes of a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, and to the first Black church west of the Mississippi. I love to report character-driven stories about identity and how we understand our place in the world.

My work has been recognized by the Ambie Awards, Signal Awards, the IDA Documentary Awards, the Best of the West Journalism Contest and the Society of Professional Journalists, among others. I have guest lectured at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and presented my reporting on the Bay Area’s history of chocolate for SF City Guides. I’ve also spoken about my Iranian Jewish identity at San Francisco’s Contemporary Jewish Museum’s Veiled Meanings exhibition and at schools around the Bay Area.
